Scope / Overview of Class:
This is a foundational art class. Children will gain an understanding of artistic concepts, materials, and techniques while developing their artistic skills. Students will learn the elements of art including line, shape, texture, color, form, pattern, space, light, shadow, value, and scale through hands-on art projects. They will use different mediums and art styles to explore their creativity while developing fine motor skills and visual perception.
Sequence / Method of Teaching / Lessons:
• Teacher will show examples, discuss the elements, explore materials, and help define each student’s personal artistic style
• Introduce a different element each week: Line, Shape, Color, Texture, Form, Pattern, Space, Scale, Value, Light and Shadow
• Students will have specific art activities to incorporate the week’s foundational element into their artwork during class
• Guidance and individual attention will be given to each student as they explore new artistic concepts
• Students will have the opportunity to share their artwork and artistic ideas with the class to get feedback and encouragement
• Optional homework assignments to build upon the skills learned in class
• Review and reflect on lessons learned, frame favorite artwork, invite family to view artists work
